Course Overview:

Welcome to another Academy 4 week course.

Each Academy 4 week course has 20 different exercise routines presented as Level 1 Beginner, Level 2 Intermediate, Level 3 Advanced. There are also 8 yoga classes which do not have levels.

This is Fitness Ahead! Level 1 Beginner.

We will use some accessories in this course including, dumbbells, and a step. I will tell you what you need at the beginning of every video.

Try these workouts if you are an inactive senior and feel that you could progress.

The workouts are easy and only 10 minutes long. Make sure to warm up with the seated warm up exercise in the top of the right column. Then perform the exercise of the day and end with the seated cool down at the top of the right column.

As your strength improves you may choose to repeat the exercise for a total of 20 minutes. Glad you are in the Academy and starting to build your strength and stability.

I have gone back to Level 1 exercises after some soreness with Level 2. I am faithfully warming up and cooling down for all. I was using my brisk walk as a warm up sometimes but I think it’s better to do the specific ones Coach Doug has. They’re great. I never could pinpoint the exercise that may have irritated my hip muscle in Level 2 because there was no pain at the time — but I did hear what I think were muscles in my side stretching or pulling – never heard that sound before!!! As I said, no pain with it. The soreness came later. But then I did an exercise in MY CORE 2 – raising your arm and then pulling your elbow down to meet your knee as you also lift your leg up. Heard that sound again only on my left side. Only did it twice. But sure enough the soreness that I had before appeared again – but not as bad. Coach Doug, what is that sound? I have very tight muscles. I now see the importance also of doing the yoga in order to stretch those tight muscles. 70 years of tightness doesn’t loosen overnight! 🙂 Thanks.
